Spanish Point celebrates 20 Years
Dear Flying In Ireland readers,
We would like to invite you to help us celebrate 20 years at Spanish Point with a Fly-in on the 11th/12th June 2011. After the success of Spanish Point 2010, we are delighted to be organising the 20th Birthday Party. We hope that the weather will be a little better and that all of our friends can make the journey for the weekend.
As more details become available, we will keep you updated.
This grass strip is about 550m long and the field is generally dry. It is relatively easy to find directly south of Miltown Malbay and to the east of the Spanish Point Road. The bright red wind sock pin points the spot.
Spanish Point Airfield Location:
N 52 50.813'
W009 24.871'
R 24/06
Freq: 123.30

Oh woooow..
You've just reminded me that I was there 20 years ago when Brendan Smith opened EISP. It was the weekend before I was starting my Leaving Cert!! I even got a hop in an R22 in return for a sketch I had been doing there.
The Luscombe and I will do our best to be there to celebrate your 20 years.
David

Presentations are planned for some 'life-time' contributors to the airfield at Spanish Point on the Saturday Night. BBQ and 'refreshments' in the Armada Hotel that evening.
The Iolar has been invited to attend and a request has been submitted to the Air Corps for a similar visit to last year.
Accommodation is available in Armada Hotel and The Central (Miltown Malbay).

David: EISP was opened by Brendan Daly, and we're looking forward to a great weekend.

Please note that Spanish Point is not a licenced airfield. Visitors are very welcome, but use the strip at their own risk.
A programme is being produced for the event, which will include mentions for all our generous sponsors. If you would like to be included, please let us know.

Spanish Point??,
I was not knowing this place.
The day that I visits Ireland, is obligatory to visit this place, undoubtedly.

Re: Spanish Point celebrates 20 Years
The airfield at 1.5km SW of Miltown Malbay in Co Clare was named after the headland jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean and the village of the same name to the west of the airfield. It probably has a connection with the Spanish Armada of July 1588 which attempted to sail north along the west coast of Ireland during a severe storm which caused many ships of the fleet to founder along the rugged coastline.
