A little off topic, but Canada is worth considering for PPL training. There you would do a Transport Canada licence. I did a CAA PPL over there a few years ago and found the country amazing to fly in. Winter weather and snow covered landscapes make you become a very good navigator! There's little airports everywhere you can go into and it's just a fantastic place to learn to fly in.
Plus when I went for a job interview a year ago, one of the questions I was asked was how come you didn't do what every other average wanabe did and go to the States and get a cheap and quick PPL
I chose Canada over the states as I had heard the very same stuff I just wrote before I went over. If I was doing it all over again I wouldn't hesitate to go the Canadian route again.
