Irish Seafires

Re: Irish Seafires
If you're still interested. Today I actually came across the Seafire model I made previously using Light Slate Grey and it pretty much confirms what I said. Remember this was based on the piece of the real Seafire not simply speculation and guessing. It is very much a GREEN grey. Humbrol 78 is too rich a green and not grey enough. It might suit a Spitfire model though. 34227 is the wrong shade. That colour was used on Israeli aircraft. It's too pastel like. Not much grey green.

Yes Vanman still interested, any chance of putting up a photo of it.

Ok, it's a bit of wreck but the colour is good. If anything I should have faded it a bit to bring down to scale colour. It's also glossy as I never actually finished it. You can also see why I haven't made a model in many years.

Re: Irish Seafires
Cheers Vanman, it looks pretty nice so you are of the opinion that is the colour or very close to it?

Well bearing in mind the limitations of the computer etc. It's close to the actual model. That picture was taken in neutral daylight. As I said it was straight Hannants Light Slate Grey with a bit of lightening to match the paint chip. Although you can hardly see it in the photo the wheel wells are actually painted the oft suggested interior green Humbrol 78 which is just that little bit too green and too dark. The piece of metal had both colours on it and they were quite different.
I'm still hopeful that the paint chip will show up soon. It's like the holy grail at this point
If he ever gets the model made post a picture.

Re: Irish Seafires
The problem Donal is that the Spitfires were probably painted a slightly different colour to the Seafires. So while that is correct for the Spitfire. It isn't for the Seafires. That's the problem. I can only assume they got it right when the painted the Spitfire but that was later than the Seafires.
