Can anyone tell me where to get a disant airband radio, i have about 100 euro to spend and cant really find anything.So if anyone can point me in the right direction i'd be greatful

Hi Glenn,

There used to be a small radio shop in Caple Street, on the right just before the quays, heading towards the river. For 100 euro, your only
chance would be a second hand set. At any rate I would advise you to go
for a digital scanner as any other type would not be worth buying.
The frequancy range on the least expensive would be 108 to 142 civil
band VHF only. If you are looking for long range UHF plus VHF, that would be much more costly, but would cover all civil freq's and most military.

It's where I bought all my aviation equipment, $80 incl. packaging for a radioshack digital scanner, picks up all the civil frequencies, maritime etc.
Basic but does the job.

Alternatively, if your in Cork, theres a shop called Maddens on Princes St. (I think). They have 4-5 types of scanner. I think they're about ?180.

I think it's Princess street in Cork city (off Patricks street). The shop is Maddens. They sell audio equipment (hifi's etc).
Ask Danelane about it as he bought one on Saturday from them.

Just wanted to mention the address for Southaer: South Aer Pilot Shop, Kinsale Road, Ballygarvan Upper Cork
From the Kinsale Roundabout, follow the Kinsale Rd. until you reach the Airport roundabout.
Continue on towards Kinsale for 1/2 Kilometre, they're located on the first right after the Airport.

A friend of mine got a scanner for ?100 in Maplans in Blackpool shopping centre, Cork. Going to try and get one there tomorrow.

i hav the unidem bearcat 180xlt its great,plus i found a nice big antenna for it that i put out my attick window,but i want to make a better one!! any1 hav ideas?? i know all the theory n have radio fundamentals stuff but where would i buy one or perhaps buy the kit??

I was in Maplin's in Blackpool last night, they have scanners ranging from ?82 to ? 400, the one for ? 82 would do just fine for listening in to chatter on 119.3, etc. However, they're out of stock, and the stereotypical pimply teenage clerk couldn't tell me when they'd be back in stock.

thats where I got mine. Paid 250 PUNTS for it about 8 years ago. It still works perfect.

Maplin do scanners and aerials, but the scanners are not the best.

I'm big into recommending RT in Limerick www.rtcomms.com as they offer a better service
