Weston must be a disaster for anyone trying to do a PPL. Where are people going for circuit training?

I'm training for my PPL at Weston and flew 6 circuits yesterday (25 left). That's an interestingly shaped circuit now, with an early right turn out over the lake, then a fairly tight downwind (because of Baldonnel's airspace) and no lower than 600' over the houses in Weston Park on finals.

I had four flapless approaches, and I can tell you that getting down to the threshold from 600' over the houses with no flap out is damn near impossible.

There's no circuit practice available off 07, which is quite limiting, because a lot of the days we've had good weather recently, 07 has been active.

Luckily I finshed my circuit training before the new rules came in. It certainly makes training very awkward, when students who are doing their first circuits have to carry out a 600ft approach on short finals. Its challenging enough for an average pilot let alone first time circuit students.

If you look at the big map of the planning application (on the noticeboard in the clubhouse coffee shop) it shows a proposed new runway alignment (from memory, approx 30:12) such that the approach path would not be directly over the houses in Weston Park (it passes to the south-east).

On the bad side, if you overshoot the end of the runway, you're straight into the lake!

Yes, but do you think that the residents would be happy with the new runway alignment? No, of course not. They'd probably rather cut off their nose to spite their face.

Re. an overrun, the lake might be a better option than the trees anyhow
