I came across an old article from 2000 where apparently the government had approved funding for building an airstrip on Tory Island.

Obviously this never went ahead, but I can't find anything in the press about it being cancelled.

Why did it never go ahead? Is it is one of those projects that is still planned but 12 years later, they are still planning?
