As I only paid a couple of visits to Castlebar, so I didn't get to see many
of the based aircraft. My biggest disappointment was missing EI-BJL the Cessna 550 by about 10 minutes on one of my infrequent visits. I was in a B&B near the station finishing breakfast when i heard the roar of the jet
on take-off. It passed directly over the house I was staying in.
My final Castlebar photo and the sadest of the lot taken July time I think in 2002.
No problem C210.

I think the best you can say is that BIE is tied down!!. A strong wind would
lift those concrete tyres with ease. The safest tie down is to a hook conceted into the ground. I remember many years ago at Biggin Hill south of London
watching a cessna 150 actually dancing in a gale force wind. It was tied to
Sadly my few visits there were always mid-week, so no chance to meet any of the people involved with the flying.

On a positive note there is 2 small private airfields which will be active in Mayo once again.
One very near Ballina and one just north-west of Castlebar near the town of Ballivarry.
Been in both and its wonderful to be able to make use of them in Mayo once again.
