Post by koala119 »

Just wondering would anyone on the forum know how much roughly would the cost be to convert a Lycoming O-320-E2A from Avgas to MOGAS? What would be involved Etc....

Any help would be great

Depending on the age of the 320 and whether or not the valves are suitable for running on Mogas it mightn't be that costly a conversion, since it's basically down to compression ratio, and changing it possibly through substituting different head gaskets.......but!

However there is much more to be considered if your want to get this engine certified........and that's where the picture chages considerably.

A lycoming 0-320E2A will run on Mogas. It will also run on unleaded Mogas, no modification is necessary. Whether it is legal to do so or not so depends on the specific aircraft, the country of registration and the operating conditions.

Read about it on these websites:

UK position here

Irish position here ... =185&a=493

aeronautical notice here:

Good US site and source of most of the mods here: ... ation.html

Bottom line, educate yourself before using forecourt unleaded fuel in an aircraft....
