2008 NI Airshow Portrush & Vulcan Bomber

Post by jonkil » Fri Feb 22, 2008 9:34 am

Just received an e-mail from the guys in charge of the NI Airshow this year:

Hi Jon

The NI International Airshow will be held in Portrush, Co. Antrim on Sat 6th and Sun 7th September.
This is a free, seaside airshow with about 20 displays each day and lots of family shows and exhibitions on the ground.
We?re hoping that the show-stealer this year will be the AVRO Vulcan bomber which has been pencilled in for the show.
The website is http://www.niinternationalairshow.co.uk

Should be a good event.

Heard that too, but the display season for the Vulcan seems to be in trouble :(

Vulcan has appeared on the show website so it looks like it's a go :)

Vulcan is off the portrush site, and no mention of it on the TVOC site either, so who knows at this stage.

Turns out they upped the appearance money so it's off the schedule :(

XH558

Post by georgeconna » Wed Aug 06, 2008 10:14 am

Folks,

I believe that the Southport show which is held on the same weekend as Portrush decided not to have the Vulcan on their show so the cost most likley would of went up for Portrush.

A bit short sighted I think not to have XH558 there, The place would heaving with people to take a look at her, Its a shame as theres a new generation of enthuasist's that still have not seen her. :(

Dare I say it but Portrush now looks a quite ordinary show, best of luck to them as I am sure as its the only one up north this year there will still be a good attendance but I won't be travelling there but will go to Leuchars instead to see XH558 there the week after.

And don't foget please join the supporters club to make sure the Jet continues for years to come.

George

Cannot agree that the lineup here is ordinary...

It's a pity that the Vulcan could not be sorted, but really... the only free 2-day show in the country featuring displays ranging from the likes of Red Arrows & Blades to a homebuilt flying cow  surely can not be considered run of the mill....

Hi Hum,

I though my comment would provoke a response!!

Its really Depends what your used to, Ordinary it is for me.

I went last year for the 2 days only really for the DC-6 and Tiffie and yes there was a good line up but this year lacks a bit of oomph for me, unless your into light aircraft and Helis and much of it is duplicated from last year so not much of a pull for me there. Maybe will look at it agiain for 2009.

From a viewpoint the topography prevents fast jets coming close are too far out for photography, The light stuff come nice a close and by god it was cold standing on that headland for sure.

As it says on the promo, its family entertainment at its best and as you say it free and the only show up north and with the Reds there there will be a gauranteed crowd on tap even without the Vulcan. I wish them luck. but I'll go to leuchars to see the Avro 698 instead.

I see EI-HUM is down to go. Enjoy it and bring a warm jacket!!, If your flying in it which I presume from your board name and pic you are, don't forgot the do a flyby of the eastern headland nice and low with topside for the lads taking pics, they will appreciate it!!.... :)

Cheers

George.

Word is that a RAF Nimrod may do a fly past - no display just a fly past.

don't forgot the do a flyby of the eastern headland nice and low with topside for the lads taking pics, they will appreciate it!!....

That would be very much appreciated - I'm sick of my wife saying 'yep, there's another one of it's belly ...' :)

Nice photos....

I had to put a book down my trousers afterwards as I got a 'red card' on Sunday, one is not supposed to fly below 100ft over the sea in a display... must have had the wrong QNH set  All sorted now..
