A runway extension for this is really unfeasable as there are roads running either end that would have to be re-routed or tunnelled under.
Cross-winds are not a very big issue in Cork as the wind is predominantly South-Westerly - not making for a very large cross wind component when using 17.
Quite simply the airport doesn't have any money to do this even if it wanted. They need to sort out the ?160m debt first!
some aircraft were able to land at Dublin , it's days like today that pilot's earn their money.
Sooo, with such a strong crosswind there's no need to lengthen the runway as less runway is required Thats my story and I'm sticking to it
