Under the old crowd, it used to be a fiver and several times, it was waived after I bought fuel. Cheap for access to a 900m runway, all the tea you can stand and no bullshit. Still cheap at a tenner. If you've just spent a hundred eus in fuel and sweat, why are you griping over a tenner, that will help to keep the place going.
Would be interested to know who charged you a landing fee at Kilkenny. As ptawse quite correctly states, there is no formal landing charge, - voluntary contributions are accepted but solely at the discretion of the visitor.
I think there is no call for calling anyone tight-arsed. Either there is a landing fee or there isn't, and if there isn't then there are legitimate questions to be asked about who is asking people for money and why.
Wont be able to make it to the fly in lads but the best of luck.
I for one have always found the folks at KK very welcoming. I have no problem paying a landing fee. A common practice across the water for fly-ins, where the landing fee is waived, is for donations to be made to a local worthy charity (hospice, etc).
Popped into Newcastle on the way back to Co. Wexford to find a number of pilots who had been chewing the cud about getting to KK but the weather put them off. Ah well. Final approach to EINC was good - the train coming towards me flashed his lights so I flashed mine!
