    Kilkenny / Newtwonards fly-ins - Any news?

    by holyflyer » Tue Apr 21, 2009 11:57 am

I'm hoping to be over in Ireland with the Cessna on the weekend of 23/24 May and just wondered if there was any news / timetable of events re the Newtownards and Kilkenny Fly-Ins mentioned on the Irish Fly In website.

Especially helpful would be whether its better to visit on the saturday or the sunday? If all goes to plan, and the weather co-operates, I'll be flying in from the Gorey area.

    Thanks for any help.

For anyone attending the Kilkenny Airfield fly-in this month I have some news for you.

The fly-in is on Sunday 24th with all activity planned for this day. There will be some vintage cars, some food (private catering van I hear), some aircraft, some tales etc.

I expect the main hangar will be cleared mainly of aircraft to make a nice shelter for 'human-craft' and of course the tower will be open to all as a viewing platform cum 'talk'-room.

The field will have a meeting shortly to organise finer details but there are I think it is safe to say a few 'known' considerations. No fuel is available from the field (consideration is slowly turning towards mogas fuel provision with tanks with the right potential for approval already secured). There are on the other hand however no landing fees either.

If anyone wants further information or is diligently seeking PPR ring Peter Tawse on 0871255241
It only takes two things to fly:--- airspeed and money.

    Hi all

I have just had a text confirmation from Peter Tawse that Kilkenny Fly in is going ahead this Sunday.

He has some influence because as he promised way back the forecast is indeed CAVOK.

We in Coonagh are putting together a hastily arranged "Fly-out" to the "Fly-in".

Great gathering today at Kilkenny. Thanks to all involved; esp to Pat on the radio and the kind lady in the hangar with the teas and cakes :)

I left a shopping bag with a bottle of C2H5OH (=Brandy  ) against the fence at the base of the tower... If anyone finds it and can resist emptying it let me know and we'll sort out a reunification deal :)

Thanks to all for a great day. Great displays by the gyro-copter and the RV.

Couldn't have asked for better weather.

Fantastic day out in Kilkenny. The food was absolutely fantastic I must say. Brilliant displays by the gyro and Hum. To anyone considering buying a gyrocopter, just buy an RV7 :D
