Island Hop 2008 Cancelled!

Post by damienair » Thu Aug 07, 2008 9:06 pm

Island Hop Update

Another Irish Summer has given us plenty of wind and rain, and not a lot of BBQ weather. We have already cancelled the Island Hop event once.

The weather for the weekend is not looking too promising, with Friday being the best of the days.

We are left with no option but once again postpone the event, the weather just will not play ball, we may run the event later on but at this time it looks like Island hop 2008 will not happen. This annoys us enormously as many many hours have been put into organising and promoting the event and money has already been spent on trophies/stickers and associated costs.

We will not run the event for the sake of it, as we stated at the outset, safety is our major concern, flying in marginal VFR weather is no fun and in some cases it may be fatal, lets all meet up when weather allows and pray to the weather Gods for some descent sunshine.

Weather Forecasts

Friday:
A mostly dry and bright day with some sunny spells though one or two showers may develop. Light north to northwest winds. Warmer.

Outlook for Saturday to Monday:
Cloudy with rain on Saturday, some heavy, though becoming drier later. Sunshine and scattered showers on Sunday and Monday.

The weather will continue to remain unsettled over the weekend and into the start of next week with further heavy falls of rain. Friday night will begin dry but rain will have extended across the country before the end of the night and it will be a wet Saturday morning. Then during the second half of Saturday the rain will start to clear and the day will begin to brighten up. Sunday morning will be the best part of Sunday. It will have turned showery by the afternoon and again the showers could be quite heavy and intense.

Kindest regards,
Island Hop Team.

Island-Hop 2008 has been canceled this year due to adverse weather conditions. We attempted to run the event on 2 different dates, neither of which was suitable due to high winds and rain. The very nature of the event dictates that it cannot be called and run on short notice due to the volume of aircraft taking part as ATC must be aware in advance that it is happening, venues must be booked, food organized, ground staff in Birr e.t.c.
We have decided that the 2008 event will not take place due to those constraints.

Regards,
Island-Hop team 2008.
