Just out of curiosty, is the grass area to the side of the runway in taxiable condition ? That is if a person had a machine that had a bigger turning circle then the runway width ?

Hi Flyer,

You asked:

Just out of curiosty, is the grass area to the side of the runway in taxiable condition ? That is if a person had a machine that had a bigger turning circle then the runway width ?

The grass area is in fact a very usable runway, depending on weather.
In wet weather it may be a bit soft in places. I'm sure Jon will give you
the full details on the strip.

Hugo.

The strip has a turning circle at both ends..... the grass runway was cut this week and is in a servicable condition..... it is "softer" than we would like and hopefully the weather will improbve over the next week or so.
A call on the radio (129.55) and we will tell you if it is fully usable on the day.... I used it the last time I flew.. 2 weeks ago (I am on holidays :D ) and it was OK then.
See you all there.

Thanks for the help guys. Don't want to be arriving and having to get out and push and drag to do a 5 point turn.

Thanks again.

What about Birr (and the mysterious Abbeyshrule event that nobody seems to know anything about) though?

They're on next weekend!
Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back for breakfast.

Yes,
Letterkenny went ahead as planned, we run the event each year for the aviation & wider community.... residents near the field, local business persons e.t.c. to thank them for their support and understanding.
We had over 200 souls here last night and got finished up about 2:30am... great nights craic !
Quite a few aircraft made the trip, but we had quite a lot who rang me that could not make the trip because of the weather including aircraft from the UK/Scotland/Wales.... the weather is the one variable we cant call.
Birr and Abbeyshrule (have no news of it at all) next weekend and also the 75th anniversary of the Emelia Elmhart flight in the airfield in Derry where she landed...... Letterkenny Flying Club have been asked to fly our aircraft to that event so wont make it South, pity all on the one weekend.
