Recently I have had to go to various parts of the UK quite often, and sometimes further into Europe to do various courses (type ratings etc) as there were no suitable ones available in Ireland.
I know there are some good training organisations in the country, generally for PPL training, and sometimes a little more, but considering how many helicopters are now in the country, and the broad range of operations, is it not time we had some really good FTO's to provide all the advanced training such as IR(H), ME type ratings, and specialist aerial work training etc?
I have found it very frustrating at times when trying to organise various training courses, the poor attitude of some of the companies I have spoken to over the last few years amazes me, especially as a potential customer they seem totally uninterested in trying to secure your business..
I would like to hear your opinions on this, specifically professional helicopter pilots, but students and PPL's views are welcome also, as someday you may end up having to jump through some of these hoops too..
Do you see a need for such an organisation in Ireland?
If there was one would you be more inclined to train 'at home'?
