Donegal International Motor Rally

Post by hugoj_air » Tue Jun 19, 2007 10:05 pm

Helis following the Donegal International Motor Rally were noted at the Milford Inn Hotel.
It?s the central point for the Saturday Special Stages, so was very active from about 10.00 to around 16.00.

Milford Inn Hotel Saturday 11.00 16.06.2007

16 EI-GPZ
11 G-PDGR

Sunday 11.00 17.06.2007
23 G-CCYT

More helicopters who took part and were seen at other locations and possibly called into the Milford Inn sometime over the three days of the rally.

I was told by the security guard at the hotel, who happened to be a pilot himself that there were 18 helis on the ground here at lunchtime on Sat and there were 28 in the helipad area at the rear of Kellys Toyota showrooms in Letterkenny on Sat morning.
The landing areas I know of are the two above and at the Rosapenna Hotel in Downings (Sunday lunch stop)
The most notable thing about the heli ops this year was the lack what I can only call the free for all that I witnessed last year. I know there was
a lot of radio contact between the pilots while flying, but seen from the ground it look very uncoordinated. This year however as far as I could see everyone was on there best behaviour and the pilot at the hotel said that an IAA representative was there at 16.00 and he was very pleased
with the activity he witnessed.

This is why HugoJ:

I think the fact they numbered the Helis and had names tied to machines meant that people acted a little more restrained! Over the years at both Kerry and Donegal I have witnessed some, ahem, eye brow raising flying....
We who fly do so for the love of flying. We are alive in the air with this miracle that lies in our hands and beneath our feet.

Thanks Cosmic, very interesting. As I said I knew about
Kellys helipad plus the gray square helipad on the roof of
the main building. The area behind the Clan Ri hotel is new
to me. Do you by any chance have a list of the designated
landing sites for use during the rally.
900EX. I do have some photos and I can e-mail them to you
if you wish, but not too sure how to send them to the forum.
Ya I know the instructions are shown. I'll have to read,
digest and try to post them. Some came out very good but a
few were not so good.

Hi Hugo..

I would be keen to see such a large gathering of helis in one place. Pretty rare event I imagine.

The easiest way to post on the forum is to load the images to http://imageshack.us/

Once you have uploaded them copy the URL in to the body of your forum post and the images will actually appear on the body of your post.

Tks.

Michael

Hi Michael

>I would be keen to see such a large gathering of helis in one place.

I managed to note 13 over the Sat and Sun at Milford and that was
after just two minutes on Sat morning 11.00 and 10 minutes at 17.00.
I was passing again on Sun at 11.00 when R.44 G-CCYT touched
down for 30 sec and was gone again. My sister and her husband
were visiting from London over the weekend, so I didn?t get to see
as much as I could have. Roll on next year.

>Pretty rare event I imagine.

Extremely rare. Normally I would be lucky to see one heli a week in
this area. So you can imagine how good it is to see so much heli
activity all at one time.

Ok, I tried that, but I?m not very familiar with these types of programmes,
so I had no luck. Also I believe broadband is available in many corners
of the world. Sadly this little corner of Co Donegal Ireland is still working
on pedal power.

Thanks for your help Michael and I can see the above is in English, but
it may as well be in Chinese as far as it makes sense to me.
I?ll try to add the photos to this posting and see if that works. I will be
surprised if it does.

Nope photos didn't paste.

Regards,
Hugo.

I have made several attempts to download the photos via
Imageshack but still cant get it going right. Either I'm dumb,
or it's the lack of expertise or no broadband, that's causeing
the problem, not sure which.
Anyway if you would like copies of the heli photos, I would
be happy to e-mail them direct to you. Just send me your request
via e-mail.

Cosmic is your offer to place photos on the forum still current?.

Hi Hugo.. My email address is info@jeteco.com

So this is how it works... Go to imageshack.us.. Click upload file and then choose the image from your desktop. Once it is uploaded copy the URL that imageshack give you (the one labelled 'Direct link to image'). Once you have copied the URL information you then go back to this forum and when you are replying to a message or starting a new one you will see the IMG button at the top of the reply field. Click this once and then paste your URL and then click IMG again after you have pasted the URL. Hopefully you will then see your image when you preview or submit ! I just performed these exact steps now and uploaded the following image ! Good luck.

Hi Michael,

Nice photo, your office I take it.
Thank you for your patience. Most would have given up by now.
O'k well I did follow your precise instructions and all seemed right until
I pasted the URL on the "new topic" page on the forum. I then clicked
again on the same place, but nothing happened. I waited about five
minutes and nothing, so at that stage I gave up. I still think
I have made an error somewhere.
I didn't finish this sentence
on your copy!!.

I had most of the photos edited on one file and was going to send them
to you in that form, but I realised they were very poor copies. So now I
have decided to post the originals one per mail in order to keep as much
of the sharpness as possible. Some were poor to start with, but most
were reasonable to good.

Perhaps if you feel the some are ok to put on the forum, you can do so.
Again thanks for your help.

Hugo.
