Helicopter in Dunboyne Castle 29 July

Post by bx737 » Sat Jul 29, 2006 11:15 pm

Could somebody please tell me the type of helicopter that landed in a field near to the dunboyne castle hotel this morning. I didnt see it but my mother in law did and said it was black big and had 10 windows on each side. She said it had difficulty trying to land on the helipad next to the hotel and then landed in a field nearby. Her house shook and knowing my interest in aviation asked me all about it.

Hope someone can help

Thank you

hello bx737,

[quote]had 10 windows on each side.

i'm no expert but that sound's like a Sikorsky S-61, like the one the Coast Guard use or Marine One the US President's helicopter!!!

Hi bx737,

It was Sikorsky S61 G-VIPZ. It left Weston this morning for Dunboyne and was due to return this evening to Weston. Unfortunately didnt have my camera with me :x . It looked pretty impressive on the ramp, even dwarfing the Citations! Another interesting visitor to Weston this afternoon was Westland Whirlwind G-BVGE which was doing some circuits.
