Yeah 9 hours? How much handling/stalls etc. had you done in 9 hours? As well as learning the traffic pattern and take offs and landing? And just out of curiosity where did you train?
I did mine over in Flightsafety in Florida and theres no way in hell theyd let anyone with 9 hours go solo there.

You hear of people going solo in 5 hours logged time.
But then of course there's all the unlogged time they're not telling you about.
I would be inclined to think that 9 hours is a bit on the skimpy side alright as regards EFATO/ Glide app practice as well as all the other stuff you have to learn before you take the plunge, but then I am not an instructor, so what the hell do I know?
But if he did get it in 9 hours, fair play to him.

5 - 6 ish hours to solo, and just on my 16th birthday too 
Have 40 hrs logged, and just need to do the solo qualifier and a touch of instrument work to finish it off. Hoping to get it around the 45 - 50 mark.
Been in love with flying since I was the height of a grasshopper. Had my first lesson on my 15th birthday, took to it like a duck to water. Worked like a mad thing when I was 15 to save up some moola to get going and did a rake of 30 - 45 minute lessons before my 16th. That got me pretty much up to speed and then I took the plunge when I just turned 16.

in 6 hours you gained competence in basic handling, stall recovery in the take off and landing configurations, EFATO, traffic pattern work and proper flaring technique?
HMMM!!!
Well if thats true then youre a very talented individual, but i think its ridiculous allowing anyone, especially a 16 year old kid to go solo after 5-6 hours. Thats how people get killed.

I think 6 hours to solo is very quick but believable with the right student and right instructor all done in a close enough time frame.
Did mine in around 16hrs with a few gaps in between training. Still waiting on the PPL though.
