And anyone who can fly a tailwheel into 200 metres on a x-wind can rip the stripes of whoever the hell they like

Alternatively, tell them that each stripe represents a plane you've crashed.

I was trying to do that today! Didn't work very well though

that is the best response i have heard top marks for that one so i get half of one because on my second solo a guy cut accross my active runway while i was on the go at 50 knots but i made a perfect radio call to abort and a perfect stop and went by the guy who had about 200 more hours than me giving him the dirtyest looks ever not bad for a 16 yr old with 26 hours at the time

You wouldn't be saying that if you were in the plane with me! It was like wrestling an alligator trying to get those wheels down. Worst thing of all was that I went up later when it had calmed down and did the two most horrible landings ever right in front of the V man himself.

It's okay, Laura.Vinnie has calmed down by now, after the gross of valiums and the 20 coffees and the assurance of the engineer that the gear can be straightened again....

You missed 6 stripes for a training Captain and 7 for the Captains with over 20,000 hours. They used to have 8 stripes for chief pilots but they found they had trouble fitting through doorways and the stripes kept poking copilots in the eye when the chief turned around to pinch the hosties bottom after she brought him coffee  Now they just give them gold epaulettes with a fringe like Admiral Nelson used to wear and a field marshals baton. Except in Ryanair where it's a whip. :P

Liberty don't let the rough boys in school make fun of you when tell them about the stripe. After all , what do they know.

Tell your mate that it's two epaulettes, one for each shoulder.

Draaaaaaagging up an old thread here, but what's the difference between gold versus silver?

I've been told I need to wear a uniform to sit my CPL test and wondering should I be so brazen as to stick epaulettes on it. My guess is no, but in looking at them online my curiosity got at me either way :D
