Going for first solo on 16th birthday!

Post by GJOYT »

Well everyone? I went solo last Thurs on my 16th birthfay in a Katana DA20 at EGAB(St. Angelo airport, Enniskillen Co. Fermanagh). I did it in 15kts crosswinds! I really enjoyed it and only did one circuit. Went solo for second time on Sun morning and did circuits for an hour on my own. Never had so much fun in my life! And to top it all off I got a spin in a Falcon 200 that was doing training!!
If any one else would like to share their experience of their first solo then please do so.

Congrats!
It's a great feeling when you take off for the first time and look to your right and no ones there, the view is so much better.

Well done! :D :D Similar to flygirl88 and yourself i went solo when i was 16(a week after my bday cause weather was crap for that week). Just got my PPL there 2months ago,it gets even better as you go on to do solo nav bcause you get a real sense of achievement when you get from A to B and back without getting lost in between!!!! P.S. You wont want to hear of another circuit by the time your finished :D

Thanks very much everyone! BFP, what Rallye is that in your picture? Is it a 100? Do you take lessons in it? Danelan2000, what do you fly and where? Are you able to do your flight test for your PPL before you are 17?

Have to be 16 to take the flight test, and to get PPL, I think.

But I thought saw on some other forum before about some people who done their flight test before they were 17. The people could have been from a different country with different rules and regulations I suppose

you can do the flight test when you are 16, you just can't get your licence until you're 17 as far as i know! :)

Hey Patrick, do you prefer flyin the Grob or 172? Do you normally get to choose which you get to fly?
The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no.

I got a flight in a Rallye 100 there a few weeks back and found the flight controls very responsive during level flight! I get to choose between flying a DA20 Katana and a Piper Archer PA-28-181. Does the Grob go faster than the 172? What powerplants do the two aircraft have?
