It is true, employees were notified of this by Memo on the staff website.

• The planned expansion of the fleet and bases is continuing in 2009 as already announced.
• The current rate of turnover is close to zero for both Captains and Copilots in Ryanair.
• Due to the low rate of turnover all co-pilot type rating courses are now cancelled for November,
December 2008, January and February 2009.
• The pilot recruitment open days in EMA on the 13th and 14th September are cancelled.
• More than 300 typerating courses will be operated in 2009 starting in March and applicants
should refer to the Ryanair website for details of the course locations and dates.
• A small number of Direct Entry positions will be available for experienced 737 rated Captains
and First Officers in 2008 and 2009. Please refer your industry colleagues to the Ryanair website.

Recruitment Freeze

Mr. Crow
Unfortunately the internal memo that Cosmic posted was the first of such type issued by Ryanair that was about three weeks ago, mid last week another was issued on crewdock saying that there is now a complete recruitment freeze. Reasons given were no pilot turnover massive and volumes of applications from the likes of xl futura etc. It also says that this will be reviewed in January 09. I take a recruitment freeze to mean no more type ratings or OCC's so even the 800 rated guys/gals from xl and futura will find it very difficult to get in. The problem in Ryanair is that they are very short on Command and i believe i was told that up to 220 f/o's are ready for upgrade, this is taking place at the moment and will continue into the future. Lots of cadets need to be line trained over the winter also so training capacity is a bit of a problem.

Indeed, if the "new guy" you are referring to is N714GZ he/she will be okay, all TR's up to the end of October will go ahead as planned, November through to March there will be nothing. Also Ryanair has purchased a number of new sims due for delivery shortly and i think the plan is to do the TR's in house in either EMA or STN when they are up and running. Enjoy the course N714GZ and best of luck. I would advise being positive about it though, as i say the main problem is training capacity over a winter when many aircraft are being grounded, upgrades to Command always have and always will take priority over any other training requirements concentrate on getting that white licence and evaluate things in again in March. Don't listen to a lot of the rubbish you hear from various "professional pilot" rumour networks  if you did you probably wouldn't have started training in the first place.good luck
