Bertie battling for Open Skies

Post by Akerosid » Fri Mar 09, 2007 11:52 pm

The Taoiseach travels to the US next week and uppermost on his list of issues to discuss with the US president (and not before time!) is the issue of Open Skies; Ireland has been - again, not before time - at the front row of countries wanting to get this through (along with Spain and Germany). Bertie has also spoken to Tony Blair, who seems keen to get a deal done. Hopefully, Britain will not use its veto, but if it does, Plan B is a new bilateral with the US.

Aer Lingus wants to add three new US cities this year, according to the Taoiseach (I'm presuming Aer Lingus knows this too!)

Great news; it seems that one way or another, Aer Lingus will get this access. That makes future planning a lot easier.

I can't help finding it somewhat amusing that they're opening the afterburners now, after so many years of apparent disinterest. Still, better late than never!
