Cork Airport new ATC facility

Post by Frosty » Tue Feb 06, 2007 1:15 pm

Planning permission is being sought for a new Air Traffic Control facility for Cork Airport. The proposed development is to be places north-west of runway 17/35, separate from all other airport buildings.

I received this from Mr. Kevin Cullinane, Marketing Manager, Cork Airport, yesterday:

Expressions of interest have been invited from suitably qualified contractors who wish to be considered for inclusion in a panel from which tenderers will be invited for the construction of a new Air Traffic Control Tower and associated offices at Cork Airport.

The works include the construction of a 430 Sqm single storey office building with concrete support spine / shaft to support a 71 Sqm octagonal shaped Control CAB; The spine / shaft incorporates a stair and lift shaft; Steel and Concrete Frame to Control CAB with sloped glazing to perimeter; Single Storey structure envelope finished with curtain walling / metal rain screen or terracotta panels. Mechanical, Electrical and Lift services Installations Office building includes plant areas, equipment room; office space; meeting / training room and staff canteen; Faraday Cage; Associated Site Development Works. The overall height of the Tower will be approximately 19 meters above existing ground level to the highest point of the CAB roof.
Regards,
Aidan

Yes, from the back airport road (Liberty Stream), near the existing fireground entrance.

When a flight is proceeding incredibly well, something was forgotten.

There was a new airport fire/police station built on the original site about a year ago, but no new tower.

Aidan
