Businessman Ulick McEvaddy has confirmed that he will discuss allowing the US military to use Knock Airport at its next board meeting.

Mr McEvaddy, who was appointed to the board of the airport before Christmas, told Nuacht TG4 that he would be in favour of anything that would benefit Knock Airport and the people of Mayo.

He said he saw no reason why US military planes could not land at Knock. He has not discussed this with other members of the board but said he would bring it up at the next meeting, due in March.

A spokeswoman for the airport said that it was working hard at the moment on trying to bring transatlantic flights into Knock, but this focus was on scheduled civilian flights only. No mention of US military aircraft or personnel has been made at any board meeting so far.
