Another new hole in the ground!

Post by Akerosid » Tue Feb 28, 2006 6:25 pm

:D

Well, finally, it's going to happen, Ireland is going to get an underground railway, linking St. Stephen's Green to the airport in around 18 minutes. (For an eight mile journey it's hardly Maglev speed, is it?!!)

Still, a step in the right direction. The new link will be open by 2012 ... well, that's when it's predicted to open. However, it will be smaller than the port tunnel and hopefully lessons will be learned from the Port Tunnel.

I'm only surprised that they're actually planning to bring it all the way through to Stephen's Green where it can meet up with the Luas - surely it should be stopped somewhere near Parnell Square so that it's nowhere close to existing infrastructure like the luas, the rail network, or even Busaras!

..... isn't that the way we do things in this country?

From previous experience we can expect it to be at least 10 years late, 8x over-budget, too few stops, too small trains and about 25Euro one-way then!!
