DC-3 Dakota in Shannon

Post by Eddie Dillon » Tue Sep 13, 2005 6:18 pm

An ex-US Navy DC-3 (C-47 if you will) visited Shannon airport yesterday. The aircraft parked outside the Air Atlanta hangar. Its registration is ZS-MRU 'Spirit of Adventure'.

It was delivered to the U.S. Navy on 6 May 1942, serialled 4703 and retired in 1946. It has since led a varied corporate life and as far as I can find out is now owned by Naturelink who offer 'nostalgic flights in it'. But as to why it was in Shannon I have no idea!

Yeah, but a DC-3 from South Africa flies thousands of miles to Ireland for just a maintenace job? There was surely another reason

Hi guys,

The employees in Air Atlanta bought the DC-3 for the Mnaging Director of the company who is retiring shortly. I don't have all the details to hand but there's more information in next months issue of the magazine which is going to print soon.

Regards,
Mark
