I have had a brilliant day today. This morning I sat up on my roof with the bins and had the best flying display ever watching the guys practicing attack circuits in gormanston matz. Knife edge turns , etc, rocket firing(the smoke is a giveaway)Even from 6miles away the explosions are like thunder.......So how about a few inversions next time you go up.A couple of bunts would be nice too. really good flying lads .CHEERS

Circuits in Gormanstown??.. Thaought that the airfield there was closed?? When you say "circuits" do you actually mean like really circuits at the field or just flying about the place??

I walked the r/way about a month ago.It is in absolutely perfect nick.
The numbers have been burnt off and replaced by big X's either end.
Dont let this fool you ,because if you get caught in the crapper its a good let down still.

Those rounds are inert rounds the PC9M is firing. Live rounds are painted green on the nose and white on the nose for Inert

OK so what are the thunderous cracks these things make on impact. I'm SSW 8km and to my ears they are explosions.IF the targets give off a large bang when hit you may be right. I have spent many a summers day watching the old cessnas strafeing(?spelling)the floating targets ,from outside the red zone.Come out to Ben head sometime. These guys are GOOD

Not quite true Heliops, the rockets used generally are flash signature, which differentiates them from inert rockets in that there is a loud bang and smoke, to indicate fall of shot etc. The rockets impact at mach 2 so that also contributes.

"Yeah I was on the ramp for the week for the firing. At least we had a good week for it and enjoyed the sun.

The two PC9's firing were 261 and 264 and the unarmed one was 262 with photographer in the back seat.

The photo that is shown has the plane firing inert heads (white nosed).
If they were green noses then it would hurt at the receiving end. ."

There are three types of warhead approved for use with the IAC PC9, the inert, the flash signature and the HEGP (high explosive General Purpose). The inert warhead has yet to be fired, flash signature is the type used predominantly for the air firing exercises. HE was fired also as a test. For everyones info.
