PC-9M Over Galway City (Salthill) 9/11/07

    by DonalMW » Fri Nov 09, 2007 6:58 pm

    Hello.
While working near Salthill today a Air Corps Pilatus passed low level over the residential area I was working in. It flew about 1 mile away (Out of my vision but I could hear it) before passing back again, at equally low level. What a fantastic aircraft they are.
My question is this, why was it in GAlway?? We only usually see the Pilatus our way for the Salthill Airshow, or maybe a one off display, ie Leavally earlier this year.
I know it's not an important topic this but I am just a little curious!!

Sounds more like a student on a low level xc navigation exercise to me, and why the suggestion that he was lost? Can he not fly over Galway or would that be an indication that he was lost? I would think that in the same way as a ppl student performs navigation exercise so would an Air Corps student therefore it really doesn't seem that odd to myself.

They seem to be aimed at the military though(pardon pun).

Nano i think you will find those colours are "Display" and ours are not "poxy grey". Grey is a standard Mil colour scheme.

Id find it extremely difficult to be lost on this Island, especially in the PC-9M as it's equipped with a comprehensive, fully tandem-capable VFR/IFR avionics package for navigation, communication and identification, using state of the art equipment. The IAC PC-9M's feature modern avionics including a Head Up Display (HUD) and Electronic Flight Instrumentation System (EFIS) where primary instruments are displayed.
