Did any of yous see the 16 page tribute to the irish army in the Sunday World? Theres a section in it about the air corps. Its very good! Do you need to have your Leaving Cert done before you can join? I'll be 17 in November of next year and will only be starting 5th year in school for the L.C. and I should also have my full PPL by then because I hope to get my licence on my 17th birthday or as soon so possible. Theres some very useful information that may answer some of your questions on www.military.ie/careers/aircorps_recruits.htm

I was told by my optician that I am just under the minimums for the Army and Air Corps in terms of vision. Guess I'll have to leave this option out. :(

you dont have to do your ppl before you apply, its nearly better off having no flying hours because they wana train you their way.a friend of mine got offered a cadetship first time applying when he was 17 and had no flying experience but failed the medical because he damaged his eye(which is now fine) thats bad luck at its worst.

But do you have to have your leaving cert done before you can join? At least though it shows that you have a definit interest in flying if you have experience or a PPL and that it wont be too hard to train you.

no,you dont have to have the leaving cert but you must be in 6th year when you apply, the offers come out the same day as the CAO 1st round,if you have little experience of flying but you can show aptitude for it in an interview you prob have a better chance than a ppl.they want to train you from scratch their way and avoid complaceny and bad habits.

Do you have to stay on for 15 years if you get it?

I think its 12 years.. but if you look at it like that, that means thats 12 years guaranteed flying! (unless you decide to do something really stupid  )
