Adding PPL(M) onto a PPL(A) Licence

Post by mixturerich »

Hi Folks,

Just a quick question for you. What is required to add a PPL(M) rating on to a current PPL(A) rating?
Would it just require a small number of hours in a fixed wing Microlight, for familiarisation purposes, or would it be something more?

Also, I would take it that, in the final 12 months of the 2 year validation, you would have to fly 12 hours in a Microlight to maintain a PPL(M) - PLUS, 12 hours in a Cessna, Piper etc. to maintain your PPL(A).

Thanks in advance.

Mixturerich.

Mixturerich,
I have a three axis microlight rating added to my JAR PPL, so I have an SEP and the microlight rating. The microlight rating requires 5 hours training and a skills test at the end.

You're correct about the hours requirement - a bit of a pain. I have my rating interleaved, so they're out of sync by 12 months or so. This allows me to focus on microlights one year and category A the following year if needs be.

Thanks dhardiman,

5 hours seems reasonable enough - is the skills test performed by the instructor/CFI or is it performed by an examiner from the IAA?

Cheers,

Mixturerich.
