white house buzz

Post by -Al- » Wed May 11, 2005 5:24 pm

I know this has nothing to do with irish aviation, but wasnt sure where else to put it.

I just heard on the radio that a small GA plane buzzed the white house, anyone hear anything more?

Okay, I have tonnes of info.

It was a Cessna 150, callsign 5826G registered to Vintage Aero Club of Lancaster PA. Plane was from S37 (Smoketown PA). The pilot was handcuffed a minute ago and thrown into the cop car. The Cessna (two-seater) was pulled back and parked at Frederick, MD.
There was no ATC communication, and I heard something about his squawk code not transmitting.
Two F-16 were scrambled and sent up - they released flares, and escorted him back to Frederick - with a Black Hawk copter; but not before he turned back into the restricted space once again.

*sigh* Just some idiot pilot who didn't do his homework about the restricted zone, and has now dipped GA in stinky crap. Nobody's gonna fly Cessna no more, lol

This link:

indicates they were using outdated maps. Were they living in a cave for the past 4 years?

Before 9/11 the prohibited area around the white house was very small, i.e. 3 miles would of been outside of it.

the old 150

Did you see all those people fleeing the area, All over a little 150 that entered restricted airspace. You'd think they'd know they were in restricted airspace if they saw the white house approaching!
I don't know, some people! :x

When the F-16 pilot eventually contacted him (I think it was on 121.25 or something?) the Cessna pilot was "very nervous"... You're damn right he was nervous what with the F-16's beside him, lol

Seriously, I think that pilots are more p*ssed off with him than the FAA or US officials... Sheesh.
