Airports In Or Out Of Use?...

Post by historical-avi-irl.i8.com »

Does Anybody Know If Any Of The Following Airfields Are Still In Opertaion In Any Form:

Ballyboughal- (2nm North Of Dublin Intl). (I Think Until 1993 approx?)
Castlebar- (County Mayo)
Oranmore- (County Galway)- (I think hele op's Only?)
Langford Lodge- (Below Belfast INTL)

Please Contact Me If You Have Information Or If You Know Anybody Who Knew About The Past Lifes Of These Aerodromes I'd like to find out more, and I really don't have a clue who to contact?
Contact Me @: aviheritage@eircom.net

Thank You,

Private airstrip is still in use, private farm, no access, 2 Austers based,
EI-AGJ and EI-AUM but both damaged in shed collapse some time ago, both under repair, farm owned by Rafter Brothers, I don't know anyone who has ever been in there, never seen the hangar, don't think it can be seen from the road.

Castlebar- (County Mayo)
Closed June 2002 to make way for a retail park

Oranmore- (County Galway)- (I think hele op's Only?)
The airfield closed in 1974 and as far as I know no activity since then.
The heli op's take place at a different location about 500m W of the old
airfield across the N18 road in the Deerpark Industrial Estate

Langford Lodge- (Below Belfast INTL)
Private airfield, still active, but seldom used now.

Regards,
Hugo.
