New User Groups - PLEASE READ

Post by mark » Thu Mar 07, 2013 5:04 pm

Hi all,

In the passed few months I’ve had many complaints about the behaviour of some users on this forum. Depending on your viewpoint my response to some posts has been viewed as either heavy handed or laissez faire. Either way, all of the comments that were posted were anonymous.

I’m in a difficult situation here, do I ban everybody unless they post using their real name? Do I leave everybody to argue and don’t get involved? Should I restrict all posts until they are approved first by a moderator?

There’s no easy way to restore credibility in this forum but I plan to try the following. As you all can see now, all users have been allocated into a group called “Unverified Users”. This means that each of the users with this tag could be anyone and for all intents and purposes are anonymous on this forum. As you will see on the right hand side of this post, I am a verified user and have a big green tick next to my name.

At the moment there is no difference between either group, except that anyone who is verified will carry a lot more credibility than an unverified user. Eventually, there may be a forum for verified users only but only time will tell if these idea works.

To become a verified user please email me (mark@flyinginireland.com) or PM me with your real name. This will not be disclosed to anyone and you will continue to post with your existing username. I will keep it in my records (offline) for future reference. I am in the lucky position of knowing many of you in person so it should be a very straightforward process to become verified.

I’m hoping the credibility this will lend to posts and users will return this forum back to its former glory and become an essential resource and focal point for Irish General Aviation.

Let me know what you think.

Regards,
Mark

Hi Dennis,

Thank you very much for the details. I've updated your profile.

Thank you to all of the other users who have contacted me over the last couple of days - there seems to be a lot of support for the idea.

Regards,
Mark
