Airspace Changes Dublin - December 13th 2012

Post by mark » Thu Dec 13, 2012 8:30 pm

Hi all,

A number of changes took place to the airspace around Dublin today as part of the TMA2012 project. This involved lowering controlled airspace in some segments of the Dublin CTA. These changes were promulgated in AIC 11/12 published on 1st November. If you have not seen the AIC you can CLICK HERE to view a map of the airspace changes.

The IAIP is available at http://www.iaa.ie/safe_reg/iaip/Frame1.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I could never understand why Irish airports need so much controlled airspace. Do they think they're special or something? Shannon and Cork are ones that always irritated me what the hell do they need 30nm diameter of sfc class c for? That's more than Heathrow 24nm X 16nm!! Have we got some sort of fetish with drawing big circles in the IAA? What's wrong with the racetrack pattern which would open up miles of airspace and effect no one.

So in relation to this new airspace grab is there much IFR traffic bombing around 2500ft 35nm from DUB in the middle of the Irish sea that warrants this change?
