Hmm....... Maybe now they'll be more receptive to GA movements after this announcement.

The future is actually quite good for Inishbofin. all it needs is a windsock and permission from the owner (us) 'to land at our own discression'.
a licence and all of the other expensive stuff is only necessary for commercial activity. Not needed for GA at all.
Cleggan.........well the same there also but it was always a bit odd that they built it in the first place. it was never needed....................but it probably got a few votes for someone and some money to throw away in the process

JFH it is a lot easier than you state. The only thing that is required to operate GA from any strip is the permission from the owner. I have been operating in and out of strips for over 30 years with only the landowners permission (there are loads of private unlicensed strips around). I agree its a pity thet we cant get the 'owners' permission for inishbofin................have we really tried maybe through AOPA ???
commercial activity is a different issue but GA only needs permission before hand. if you can get it in ya go at your own discression.
Commercial generally needs to operate from licensed strips not GA.
Inishbofin is a fine facility Cleggan is a dump.

Could be the government just flying a kite to see what the reaction is. It's not as if they are averse to doing that! No bad reaction or just minor reaction then go ahead! Big reaction then deny that it was ever their intention.

Hi JFH,

Where was that published?

Now that no terminal is to be built, there is little reason not to allow GA in. They aren't interferring with the construction work.
