Advice re Transponders

Post by fast oiseau » Tue Oct 23, 2012 10:00 am

Hello all,
my ancient mode C transponder is on the blink.I'm considering changing to a Trig or Garmin Mode S.Has anyone got an opinion on these for use in a bog standard General aviation aircraft.

The mode S is nice to have but, I do still feel it's just another "target on your back" so various authorities know where to stick the knife...... No experience with Trig but it looks like it could be fiddly to use on a bumpy day. The Garmin 327 is great if you don't need mode S but want the look/feel/reliability of a Garmin. Otherwise the 328 is the one, I do see lots of people like me with a 330 in an airplane that doesn't it and wouldn't break either 175kts or FL150.
