Low Level over Boyle

Anyone have any information on a low level flight over the town of Boyle this morning (12 noon ish)? May have been a Cessna with a red tailfin. It seemed way below permitted flight levels, to an extent that the person who seen it left Boyle to check had it landed or indeed cleared some hills to the south of town but did not see the aircraft again.

This will be the aircraft. It's engaged on survey flying, very low level all approved. There should have been leaflets or info in the local papers about it. Image

Mystery solved! Thanks Vanman. The person who seen the aircraft has confirmed that your pic is the one. Indeed, I did read of this survey (ex Angelo??) in Ros Herald but that was before Christmas. Thanks again.

That explains the excitement at work today, they assumed it was me, but I was in the next office!
Only one to miss it.

Will it be back to Boyle?

As impressive a sight it must have been to see the Twin Otter operating at low level....the sight of the BT-67 (turbo prop DC-3) over the last couple of years was much better! :mrgreen:

Nice looking aircraft! I have made several thousand skydives from FL130 from these fine machines.
Pity we don't see more of these aircraft operating around Ireland.

Anyone know what the survey is for? Ordinance, Geological????

Geophysical survey, for geological maps and mineral resources etc. It's flown at about 200 feet AGL.

Yes we need a Twin Otter here in Ireland. You should get one. I'll fly it for you. :wink:

Edit: Just came across this website:

http://www.tellusborder.eu/Home.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There's a map showing where it'll be surveying next.
