Back when I operated a 912 I was recommended to use 5W40. To help better regulate oil temps. Never had any problems with it. Forget the brand name. 5W40 Came also as "Rotax Recommended" but I guess to each their own.
I have been informed by Shell that Aerosport 4 is a repackaged/Badged 'Advance VSX 4T' specifically for the aviation market. In other words its the same oil in a new container. Their reasoning for the marketing change was that Pilots did not like putting motorbike oil into their areo engines.
Please Note that while VSX 4T is on the recommended list it should be made clear that "Aeroshell Sport Plus 4" is specifically blended for ALL Rotax 4 Stroke Aircraft Engines, the reason why rotax recommend it over any other is because they have sole control on the oil grade and additives used in the blend and not the oil company themselves therfore negating the chance of the mix being changed etc.. Proof is the rotax logo on the bottle : ) None of the other brands can offer this, it is particularly useful when it comes to the gearbox additives which are specifically added to SPort Plus 4 and formulated by Rotax in order to help with slipper clutch and main gear lubrication and operation.
