Thanks to birr for hosting the iaa today. It meant us microlight pilots could fly in peace everywhere else. Also thanks to the person in the iaa who told us they would be in birr today, he even got the names right!

Great day out, well done to all at Birr, fabulous breakfast, and great conversation.

Magic to see the Aeronca Sedan flying, looked great air-to-air in the Slieve Blooms, and a fairly nippy machine.

What a great start to the season, the bar has been set high.

On behalf of all the crews at Coonagh who made trip over the day, many thanks. Another good Birr outing. Glad we all got the weather today - especially after the last few Birr events.

I wasn't there but I take it this was them enforcing the regulations on foreign reg microlights and NPPL's??

what was the mood like when the IAA showed up , did thet enforce the letter of the law or take a light touch approch with information etc. what was there reaction when they saw a microlight in the flesh and most important did they get a free fry-up !

I don't think anyone had a problem with the guys from the authority being at the fly-in. They are only doing their job; I have often been stopped by the guards in my car and had tax and insurance checked - I don't see a difference.
'Ramp checks' are a part of life - not just in Ireland :)

It's unfortunate that the IAA felt the need to be there. As pilots we really shouldn't have any reason to fear a ramp check. We all know the rules and we know why there are rules. There are people who think things like current medicals and licences don't apply to them. not to mention aircraft paperwork. I for one don't want to share the same airspace with them or the same piece of sky......................

At what time did these checks take place? Was only there for a short time myself and didn't observe anything like that. Presumably it's a check on aircraft documentation? Don't see why anyone should have a problem with that at all - it sounds like an important item of consumer protection/public safety etc.
