Engine failure....

While working this morning we(Chopper 3) were requested by Philadelphia tower to go investigate a plane that had made an emergency landing a short distance away....this is the audio transcript.......

as you can see it was a good ending, but as a fixed wing pilot something i dont want to happen to me.

Obviously an incident in which their task prevented them from having sufficient altitude to make it to the surrounding airfields.
They were also quite lucky that the traffic was light.

This has happened on a few occasions, it can never be stressed enough that avoiding the potential panic stages can make a situation like this much worse!

Good coverage. The road seems a popular choice as a forced landing site in the states. Their was very good one caught on a police car camera a few years ago of a warbird landing. I haven't quite decided whether landing with or against the traffic flow is best despite the advice of always landing with the traffic.

It is a definite advantage the rotary guys have when the Engine stops making noise tho!

We have had three of those off airport emergency landings....its indicative of flying...sheer joy interrupted by moments of sheer terror.......
