Luscombes in Ireland

Post by OnTheNumbers »

I was having a chat with the guys in European Luscombes and the question came up of how many Luscombes are there in Ireland? Obviously, there's mine in G-BSHI and there's on in Limerick but does anyone know of others, either in the Republic or oop North.

G-BSTX is another Luscombe, an 8a, which is based in Kilkeel, co. Down

Hi Rudy,

Just came across TX in the last couple of days. I think there's another one up there too.

There was one sadly destroyed in an accident in 2006. From the report it was a Luscombe 8A, N2837K.

This is probably of no direct interest to you, but anyone who trained at Ormond Beach Aviation in Florida may remember a dark green Luscombe parked on the apron alongside the OBA training aircraft. It was covered all the time I was there though and I never saw it flying.

Hi Hibby,

Not surprised by the OBA machine. Unused, unloved Luscombes were apparently quiet a common sight in the past - thought people have gotten wise to their charms now.
