Post by Delta Sierra »

Piedmont Hawthorne have bought weston aerodrome for a reported 50 million euro off property tycoon Jim Mansfield.

They own and operate 35 Airports in the US.

Here's there website http://www.flypiedmont.com/ . These look like serious players in the GA business and I don't think theres a threat to GA in Ireland. These guys will have invested over $60 Million and they won't have bought into Weston unless there were no planning issues hanging over it and they see a viable future for the airfield.

I know where your coming from on the planning issues, but at least the Runway extension is finished.
Regarding GA,one way of keeping residents happy is to reduce the current movements which will stop alot of training etc.
It might be worth a mention,Piedmont adopted this policy at some of the Airports they acquired in the US in the past.
Time will tell!!! :?:

BTW,

Mansfield is retaining a portion of the site to construct his hotel The Weston Park Hotel.
Piedmonts long term plan is to use it as a European hub for Biz Jet traffic.
For the last 2 Years they have been in disscusion with Shannon, with that plan in mind but nothing came out of the talks.

jeez, i caNt believe its sold. i really hope this is not the death knell for GA at weston as there is a good chance these folk will jack up hangerage etc and will leave a lot of people financially very strapped.

I can never get my head around people who complain about noise polloution when they buy a house in front of a runway.
Chances are the airport was there long before them so they should ram it up there hole, and shut up, and politicians shoudn't entertain there self interests, if it wasn't airtraffic it would be something else, (Its just one of those things that really annoys me!)

Anyway as for an American company buying Weston, I think it is great, the Americans have a far far better and more practical way of doing things when it comes to Aviation, I look foward to watching the airport grow for the better.
Its good that its an aviation company buying it and not some profit seeking beancounter adding to his investment portfolio and ego.

Delta Sierra,

You are in the know my friend, alot of people in EIWT dont even know whats going on.

Your info seems to be from a stateside source!!!

Not to sure what sort of effect this move will have on NFC,EHA,or Eirecopter there are huge movements from those three alone.

Iam sure Piedmont will keep training at Weston but will it be theirs or a third party!!!

Doesn't seem to be anything in the news papers about this.
Surely they would have pounced at this if there was something to these Rumours.

Go easy there chappies, i think the rumour is true but the timing and the way its being announced is wrong.

Judging by the comments above, there is a bit of a leak going on in Weston.

I heard through an aviation connection in Washington last week.

Dont see it having much of an affect on current operations at Weston, if anything it will make things even better.

Regards
