Runway Drainage at Kilkenny

Post by Papa8 » Sat May 09, 2009 3:30 pm

Just thought I should mention to anyone who is flying this week that the runway at Kilkenny is restricted at the moment.

RUNWAY DRAIN PROJECT UNDERWAY. NO FLYING WHILE CONTRACTOR ON RUNWAY SAT AM & MON-FRI 8AM-5PM. RWY LENGTH 400M. NO RWY 09 OPS UFN.
It only takes two things to fly:--- airspeed and money.

Kilkenny Airfield drainage

Post by ptawse » Mon May 11, 2009 10:39 am

Just a reminder to all pilots intending to visit Kilkenny. Please ring in advance for PPR (087-1255241). As for many grass airfields, the exceptionally wet winter took its toll on the runway. This is being addressed at the moment with additional drainage over the worst affected area. While the drainage work will only take a few days (during which time the runway will not be available), the grass will take 2/3 weeks to recover. During that period the available runway length will be 400m.
As a consequence of the above, we have decided to postpone our Fly in which was planned for the 24th May. Will post a new date in due course.
