A320 in the Hudson
Just got back from shooting some video of the plane in NY. What an unbelievable event. Picture perfecct. Thoes pilots did a great job, full of fuel, full of passengers and baggage landing with a tail wind on water. Not to mention all the people getting out safe.......what more can I say......awesome !!

Yes, no question, they had luck on their side but I wouldn't call it a miracle. That suggests to people that only an act of God will save people in an aircraft emergency. Let's not encourage the media's preying on people's fears.
Luck put them within range of the river and potential rescuers, the pilot, who incidently is a glider instructor, made full use of the luck and landed safely.
Oh yes, and if any us ever hear anyone say what's the point of the airline safety briefing - we have a duty to put them straight.

ps I am getting so tired of so-called journalists saying that an aircraft fell out of the sky - gravity is not as strong as they give it credit for.

What really annoys me more than anything about situations like this is the fact that the world's press start using words like 'Lucky' and 'Miracle'. This totally takes away from the skill and professionalism of the flight crew. They train for hours and hours for situation like this and then the press have the nerve to say that they basically tossed a coin or the hand of God helped them.
Praise the crew for their skill.

Well, I'll allow "lucky" as a contributing factor
They were lucky in the sense that all the factors outside of the pilots' control were favourable - weather, location, time of day.
And to be fair - the press are glowing in their comments of the crew.
How long before we get camera-phone footage of the touch-down?
