Can anyone advise on an airfield/farm strip in West Cork/Kerry area with about 500 to 600m that is friendly to visiting aircraft.

Bantry. Its quite small though! There is a 900m trip in Clonakilty but I don't know if they welcome visitors.

Clonakilty does not welcome visitors due to planning issues.

I flew into Ardfert in Kerry on Sunday, lovely grass strip, very well kept and the welcome was very friendly. Beautiful spot with fabulous scenery, definately worth a visit and a spot I will definately visit again.

thanks for the info, Ardfert may be a tad short for me. take off is no problem but the bellanca is a heavy beast and takes a lot of stopping once it is on the ground

what planning issues? i'm not aware of a blanket ban there but calling the owner well in advance is a possibility of a visit. I dont think they want the world and its mother dropping in....

I fly over that strip in clon about 4 times a wek just wishing I could land there. Its PERFECT... apart from the house on the threshold!
Seriously, its a very level well maintained strip. Looks like a pool table from the air.

In the last year or two during a Coonagh flyout to Bantry I contacted the owner of the field at Clon. He declined us permission to use it. He said there were issues with locals and the existance of airfield. He was having to sort some planning issues. Whatever happens he regretted he had to prevent visitors dropping by.

I have not checked the situation since.
