Polly Vacher to Visit Weston - This Friday! (May 30th)

Post by mark »

'World record breaking GA pilot, Polly Vacher, will make her first visit to Ireland on Friday, 30 May 2008 to promote her charity. She will fly into Weston Airport in her Piper Dakota, where she will make a presentation outlining her epic voyages around the world in this aircraft. During the course of the flight she created 3 world records. These and other details about her visit and her book are available HERE . The May 2008 issue of Flying in Ireland magazine gives more detail about her, as does a visit to her web site www.worldwings.org.'

First visit to down south anyway, she stopped at all the airports in Norn Iron a while back as part of her last fund raising trip where she visited every airfield in the UK, including a touch and go at Heathrow. (Very unusual, special permission was required).
She's got some good stories, well worth a listen.

I think a couple of Air Corps PC-9's will be 'escorting' her into Weston once she 'coasts-in' off Killiney.

Looking forward to being there for the event! A great initiative by the organisers. Well done to all involved. Hope the weather plays ball.

I can confirm the Department of Defence has given authorisation for the Air Corps to meet Polly at the coast & escort her to Weston. They will be flying two Pilatus PC 9's and will be accompanied by a helicopter camera ship.

Media interest is increasing. Local newspapers have published articles promoting her visit. RTE News & TV3 News expect to send camera crews & reporters (subject to other breaking news stories on the evening). Irish Times & Star both expect to send reporter & photographer.

I wish to express sincere thanks to management at Weston airport, Flightwise, City West Hotel & Paul Carey limos for their generosity & support.

Everybody welcome to this unique opportunity No cover charge, but hopefully patrons will be generous with contributions to Polly's charity.(FSD - See opening conversation).

Was just about to post a thread saying I spotted the formation but thought it might have had something to do with Polly's visit so thought best to check here first.

Spotted over Greystones at 1840 local (1740z) heading northbound, 2 PC9s each side of Polly's aircraft, and AW139 off to the left filming. Picture quality is awful as its from my phone and took a while to get out while watching it;

I seen the 2 ship formation of PC9's enroute to the coast around 18:20. Just peeved I didn't see them escort her back.

I'm just back from Polly's presentation. She's a true inspiration, both in what she has done and what she has helped the Flying Scholarships for the Disabled achieve. If we all had her enthusiasm and positive outlook - how much better would we all be!

It was a real pleasure to talk with both Polly and Peter; their words of encouragement, very special indeed.

Michael, thanks so much for making this happen.

What's the "Air Squadron" Hum?

I was in Kilkee for the weekend but didn't see/hear anything around. Pity, it's an interesting list of aircraft and presumably an interesting bunch of flyers too.
