EGAB St Angelo

Post by TonyR »

St Angelo airport near Ennislillen in N Ireland has re-opened after being closed for 2 1/2 years.

The airfield is very GA friendly and is worth a visit.

I will post contact details ASAP

Tony

Now where did I put that old 'Fly in Ireland'?

While you're at it, could you let us know what frequencies the field is using.

It's been gone so long the great updating machine has 'recycled' all of the details I had on the field!

Good news, do you know whether the old contact details are still valid?

Re St Angelo.

I could be wrong here, but I think the airport is owned by the county
council, and some councillers thought it a drain on resources, paying
staff etc to keep it open, so they voted to close it down. Obviously they have changed their minds for whatever reason. Now somebody will tell me I have it completely wrong, but that's the story I heard.

Hugo.

Try this for size. A friend of mine called last weekend and
this is what he found.

Main Apron:
G-JOYT Piper PA-28-181 Cherokee Archer II - John K.Cathcart
Ltd now based, Ex Eglinton)
G-VGMC Eurocopter AS.355N - Finlay (Holdings) Ltd
Arrival:
G-BRTX Piper PA-28-181 Cherokee Warrior - Spectrum Alpha
Flying Group (F/T BFS) "SPC99"
Inside the old main hangar:
G-TOAK SOCATA TB.20 Trinidad - The Phoenix Group now based,
Ex Aldergrove.
G-MWWV Solar Wings Pegasus XL-Q - R. W. Livingstone (wing &
pod seperate)

I managed to get into the control tower and the guy on duty was
telling me they've had quite a few visitors since they re-opened.
He showed me a computer on which he has taken photos of all
the aircraft that have visited.
Here's a quick log of what he showed me:
08/09/04:
N5264Q Hughes - arrived from Omagh (our old friend that gets
about!)
09/09/04:
G-EGNR PA-38-112 Tomahawk - (Eglinton based)
G-CBKY Jabiru SP-470 - (Eglinton based)
G-BWWG Rallye 235 - (Eglinton based)
15/09/04:
I-6351 Technam Echo - (Granard based) - came in from EIAB
Abbeyshrule
he was telling me that there was a piece done on the TV about
the airfield and that the guy that owns this was one of the guys
talking.
19/09/04:
N206CF Cessna TU206 - (From Donegal to Athboy)
21/09/04:
G-CBYY Robinson R44 Helicopter Training & Hire, Newtownards
23/09/04:
ZG??? PBN 2T Islander AAC (CCTS) "AAC594"
24/09/04:
G-BZVH X'Air 582
G-SEJW PA-28-161 - Keen Leasing Ltd
N65MJ Be 58 Baron (From Donegal - Frank Doherty? correct,
EI-DGK X'Air
EI-BGJ Cessna 152 - (From Sligo)
G-CBKU Iccarus - (From Carnowen - Coulter Blackburn)
G-FLYY BAC.167 Strikemaster (From Eglinton)
G-JLCA PA-34 Seneca II (From Newcastle, England)
(Busy day!!)
28/09/04:
I-6351 Technam Echo (back again!)
By the way, for your database the old telephone number for
Enniskillen doesn't work anymore. The new number for the
airfield is 028 6632 9000.

Thanks Hugo. I got the tower no. mixed up with someone elses. I was down there today flying for the first time in 2 1/2 years and the place is fantastic. The runway lights have been re-installed, the fuel pumps will be back in operation by next week and the DME and NDB also. The place is extremely friendly and once you have paid the landin fee you can you can drink as much tea or coffee and do as many touch and go's as you like. There was a good bit of activity going on there today too. I look forward to going flying there again as soon as possible.
