Heli down EI-SBM-Dunshaughlin, Co. Meath

Heavy landing just east of Dunshaughlin in bogland.
One person (P1) on board.
Airlifted to hospital with suspected spinal/compression injuries.

Aircraft tipped overe on it's side just 30 yds from powerlines.

Just back from scene, eye witness's report aircraft was spinning as it impacted the ground. AAIU now left the scene for the evening.

Aircraft to be moved to Gormanstown tomorrow.

was there much damage to the aircraft?

I could not get close to see as there was GARDA protection in place. The aircraft was lying with it's under carriage towards me so the main rotor and cockpit were out of view.

This is one very lucky pilot.

Yea i heard it was a tail rotor failure.. Best wishes to the pilot and his family..

John today has had a successful back operation, and hopes to now be on the road to a rapid recovery. He and his family and friends would like to extend their gratitude to all who have wished him well and cannot wait to be back among his fellow aviators.

All concerned would like to now let the AAIU do their investigation and subsequently await their report without further speculation.
