User Moderators?

Hi Mark,

Just a suggestion. With the increasing number of unwanted posts, many of them pornographic in nature, maybe it would be a good idea to promote some board users to moderator status so that these posts can be removed more quickly. Four, Six or eight eyes are better than two. Having operated a forum myself in the past I am very aware of the benefit of this.

I didn't notice any of these... Any chance of my money back?

mini - obviously will never be a moderator...

As these unwanted messages only seem to attack the first forum automatically, would it not make sense to create a dummy forum above GA, and lock it to posts.

This would have one of two actions:
- post fails
- automatic program directs to next open forum.

if the former, we've won (for the time being).

If the latter, open the dummy forum, and mark it as such, possubly disquising it using same text format to background colours.

Hi guys,

I'm considering user moderators. Last week I changed some of the code as Ceatach suggested and their has been a big drop in spam, it's down to about one message per day as opposed to five or six before that.

Enough is enough now. With photographs now being posted as well. Its such a pity. People will stop visiting the forum and that would be such a pity. This latest post is the worst yet.Not befitting this site.

You should try this Mark. forums are numbered in the php calls. f=1 seems to be in all the spam...

Create a forum and number it above the Irish General Aviation forum. You can hide it to the public so no changes would be apparent. It -might- just work.

Thats a good idea, the only thing is that if you hide the forum publically would the spam also not be able to access it? Or would it just get confused when it can't access the first forum and give up?

Perhaps it could be left visible to the users, but the title of the forum would simply be a "." to keep it really short, and the font would be very small and the colour black like the background.

That way it would be visible electronically, but not to the naked eye.

It is no good - I tried it a while ago. It is possible to create a new forum and place it over the Irish GA one, set the post permissions to registered users and the view permissions to private (the spam can post but we cant see it). The problem is that placing the forum on top of Irish GA doesnt give the forum the property f=1. It goes by order in which the forums are created. So to do it that way would mean deleting everything and then creating the dummy forum, then putting everything back. Too much effort that could all be for nothing if the spam is posted on the first 10 forums in future...

Talk to the webmaster at www.021racing.com (Cork mountainbike website) . They had the exact same problem and whatever the webmaster did it stopped immediately.
