Hi,
I bought a Yeasu (vertex) Fta310 in the end which is also 8.33khz compatible.
Very nice little radio, and the reception is excellent in comparison to my friends Icom A24 that i was using for the last couple of weeks.

The only reason they are implementing 8.33khz channel spacing is to avail of more frequencies. Im not 100% sure on this one but i think all planes flying above fl195 are requires to have 8.33khz radios fitted.
